Foods to Avoid If You Have Arthritis
1. Sugary Treats and Refined Carbohydrates
Sugar is one of the biggest contributors to inflammation. When consumed excessively, it leads to the release of cytokines—proteins that promote inflammation in joints. Refined carbs like white bread, pastries, and soda also spike blood sugar levels, worsening inflammation. Swap these for whole grains and natural sweeteners like honey or fruits.
2. Processed and Red Meats
Processed meats (like bacon or sausages) and red meats contain high levels of saturated fats and advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which can increase oxidative stress and inflammation in joints. Opt for lean proteins like fish or plant-based alternatives such as lentils or tofu.
3. Alcohol
